As a ski instructor in her early twenties, Serena honed her communication skills. To coax students to step out of their comfort zone to do something new, Serena learned to be clear, concise and trustworthy. This foundation in clear communication and adaptability became the bedrock of a 20-year career spanning campaign, government, corporate, and nonprofit sectors — where the ability to guide people through complex challenges is just as critical as it was on the mountain.

Serena excels in fast-paced environments where she must adjust to changing environments, quickly learn new things and solve problems with creativity and poise.

As Senior Advisor to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Serena led communications for Colorado’s COVID-19 response, ensuring transparency, message consistency and accuracy in public information. Her work helped provide clear, timely updates to millions of Coloradans during the rapidly evolving crisis.

Serena also provided strategic leadership on some of the Polis Administration’s most important goals and initiatives, including passing comprehensive and historic land use reform to increase the supply and lower the cost of housing, and saving people money on health care through the creation of the Colorado Option and the Prescription Drug Affordability Board. Serena’s expertise lies in turning complex issues into compelling, accessible messages and stories and effective communications plans that mobilize action.

Serena has a degree in Public Relations from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. She lives in Denver with her husband Colin and their Australian Shepard Owen.
