Early on, Paul realized he had a knack for helping people tell their stories. After cutting his chops at the number one television station in Minneapolis, Paul moved to Chicago producing for Lester Holt – currently the main anchor of NBC Nightly News. In his 20+ years in Midwest newsrooms Paul produced news coverage of devastating floods, tornadoes, and blizzards, as well as the Oklahoma City bombing, O.J. Simpson trial, riots, and Papal and Presidential visits. In the newsroom Paul also oversaw staff, was responsible for the all-important evening broadcasts, and mentored other up and comers before launching his own communications consulting business.
As one of the founding partners of a television production company, Paul has covered stories for all types of clients. He has created and produced shows for Food Network, Travel Channel, and Animal Planet. Paul has also helped countless global, regional, and local clients identify and define their story and then share it with the world.
Paul’s time as a consultant also had him providing media training to members of the US Military. Paul and his team were the embedded “notional” media in military exercises, looking and acting like the news media before switching to their consultant role to provide coaching to senior military leaders.
Through it all, Paul remains passionate about helping people tell their story. He brings this experience and consulting skills with him to Rockford Gray. Paul is a principled communicator who believes clients will be successful as long as they show empathy, are transparent, and convey honesty with both the news media and key audiences.
